The Goatman

Where:

Sightings have taken place around Prince George’s County, Maryland, as well as in Texas and Kentucky.

Legend:

Goatman is an axe-wielding humanoid creature said to be half man and half goat, similar to a satyr from Greek mythology. Sightings have been reported in three different states, and their storylines are often the same. Goatman tends to hide beneath bridges, stalking passersby and parked cars. He is known to scour popular hook-up spots for victims, which are often isolated and frequented by couples looking for some alone time. Some variations of the legend claim that Goatman was a genetic science experiment gone wrong; others suggest supernatural origins, possibly involving the Devil.

Visit:

Governor’s Bridge, a.k.a. “Crybaby Bridge”

Bowie, Maryland

This bridge has been the site of numerous Goatman attacks in the area, and is generally considered to be haunted. There have also been reports of a “ghost car” driving over it, and folks have reported the sounds of a baby crying near the bridge at night. The bridge itself is currently closed due to structural and safety concerns, but ghost and cryptid hunters still frequent the spot.

Goatman Hollow

Prince George’s County area, Maryland

Goatman Hollow is a Goatman-themed haunted house that is only open in the fall, around Halloween. Unfortunately, this seasonal attraction has been closed for the past few years, but promises to re-open in a couple of years once it finds a new location.

Old Alton Bridge

Denton, Texas

Several terrifying encounters and reported vanishings have occurred at this bridge in Texas, making it a hotspot for paranormal investigators. Local legends says if you knock on the steel bridge three times at midnight, or if you turn off your car lights and honk three times, then you’ll summon the Goatman.

Legend at Pope Lick

Louisville, Kentucky

This annual haunted attraction runs during the Halloween season and invites you to explore the folklore of the Pope Lick Monster (a local version of the Goatman) by “breaking into the forbidden Pope Lick forest with only a flashlight to guide your way.”
